Showcasing stockings, bralettes, waspies and high waisted briefs on her ‘Naughty Girls’, we quickly fell in love with Natalie’s works. Join us as we get to know the brains behind it all and take a peak into Natalie’s world, then take a look her illustrations. 1. How did you first get into illustration? My mom was a fashion illustrator so watching her draw was always a big part of my childhood. However, I kind of fell into it after a breakup. I was crying in my room and just started doodling to keep my mind busy. For whatever reason the girls I was drawing made me laugh and so I just kept with it because it made me feel good. 2. We see the recurrence of lingerie and S&M throughout your illustrations, especially in your book ‘Babes’. Why do you love drawing lingerie in particular? I don’t know if I so much love drawing lingerie, as it is more of just what comes natural to me. 3. What inspires you? What mediums do you go to, to gain your inspiration? My drawings are mostly inspired by relationships with people that have impacted my life for the positive or the negative. Drawing is very cathartic for me. Honestly, if someone has made an impression on me there is a drawing about them. 4. Do you collect lingerie yourself? Or do you purely love to draw it? Yes, I’ve been collecting lingerie for thirteen years. I started my collection specifically with pieces from the 1920’s and it has since spilled over into later decades and current brands. I have an entire closet in my house dedicated to just undergarments. Lingerie is truly my first love; I’ve been known to fall to the floor and cry at the sight of Victorian stockings. 5. What is your favourite brand? That’s a tricky question. Lingerie has really made its mark in the fashion world over the last ten years and with so many new brands popping up and older brands extending themselves to intimate apparel, I find that the specialty of what once was, has been lost to an extent. I’m over the excitement of leather and latex and bored of lace and obscure cutouts. However, I do get excited when I see Dolce & Gabbana’s lingerie inspired pieces on the runway. Mainly because D&G has the means to be so decadent with silhouette and embellishment and everything is ever so classic and yummy. Other than that, I am most impressed with the classic white cotton panty. It is both innocent and tempting at the same time and seems somewhat refreshing. That being said, my favorite brand right now may simply be Hanes. And of course I love cheap sex store finds. I got a really great metal bra and panty set at one in Queens recently that I adore. 6. What style of music do you listen to whilst you work? Music plays a big part in my work process. Depending on my mood I will listen to anything from Edith Piaf to ASAP Rocky. Right now I’m listening to Sade. I just moved to Los Angeles and her music seems to fit in my life right now. 7. Do you have any advice for any other aspiring illustrators out there? I don’t feel like I’m in a position to give anyone advice as I’m still learning everyday, but I will say that the work I’m most affected by has an honest and somewhat vulnerable undertone to it. When there is emotion behind a drawing, even if it’s just a scribble or a line, people can feel that. That’s why I believe children are the best artists; no one has told them yet that this is wrong and this is right and that’s good and that’s bad, it’s just real. Perhaps my advice would be to channel ones inner child. Want to see more? Instagram: @NatalieJhane Site: http://nataliekrim.com/ -- source link
