pursuitoftruth:mysteries TWWW never solved: 1) jim’s hair varying wildly in season 44) the name of jim’s horse. i for one did not know the horse was named Superstar irl and am very pleased to have learned itanyway now I’m browsing the OED’s historical thesaurus and I propose calling Jim’s horse Tycoon. apparently the word was originally used in English to describe the shogun of Japan; and in the general sense meaning an important person or magnate, was first used in 1861 in reference to Abraham Lincoln!also: they don’t cite “superstar” until the 1910s, but “star” in the theatrical/sports sense was well established, and I do see contemporary US examples of constructions like “super-hot” and “supersmart”, so like, you could probably totally get away with calling him Superstar or Super-Star–particularly if you hand-wave it by assuming that as a theatrical type Artie in particular could easily have been familiar with various new slang some time before it made it into the newspapers. -- source link
