West Side Story (1961) This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals. West Side Story has one brief moment where a woman starts spinning in circles, and as she does, there is a delayed separation of colors, which creates a very mild strobe-type effect. Most of the motion sickness hazards of this film happen in the first scene. It begins with long helicopter shots overlooking a city, and uses a few quick shots where the camera spins very fast, giving the viewer a sense of chaos. Once law enforcement officers arrive to this scene, the rest of the film is shot with either stationary or very smooth camera work.Flashing Lights: 1/10. Motion Sickness: 2/10.TRIGGER WARNINGS: Openly racist characters who use slurs against Hispanic people, and aggressively harass a woman late in the film. Multiple actors wear Brownface. -- source link
