lastplantagenet:rolypolydandy:Notable Dates… The Coronation of King George IV“10.20am on Thursday 19th July 1821, George Augustus Frederick Hanover entered Westminster Hall half an hour late to begin the procession to Westminster Abbey, kicking off a day of ceremony, celebration and, because it was our Georgie, excess."…(X)That post doesn’t mention my favourite thing about the coronation. After the ceremony they had to walk back to Westminster Hall, and by this point the barons carrying the canopy were starting to get tired so the canopy started to sway a bit precariously. George got a bit concerned that they were going to drop it on his newly-crowned head so he sped up so that he was walking just in front of it rather than directly underneath. The barons then started to walk quicker too to try and keep up with him, making the canopy lurch around even more. George got quite nervous at this point and sped up even more, and they carried on like this until they ended up basically jogging into Westminster Hall.he turned up half an hour late…after waiting for SO long he tuRNED UP LATE -- source link
