magicalhometoursandstuff:Inside what was once the La Rosa pasta factory, is today divided into large studios. It’s been home to many artists for 20 years—an eclectic mix. Unfortunately, for this group of long-standing tenants, it was soldand despite the loft law, they managed to clear the building of half of its tenants. No one knows what the gentrification will bring and there is construction scaffolding all around the building, but this is Johanna’s loft home, right now.Tenants took leases for work studios and made them homes on the sly. They pretended that their spaces were used solely for work, but it was fiction. And everyone involved turned a blind eye. That was before.Whenever trouble occurred, most of the tenants came together to protect what they had. This is a wonderful space, can you imagine being in danger of being thrown out by the new corporate owner?Johanna’s bed is off the living room area, in a cozy nook. The party banner hanging next to her bookcase says “infect others” and was created by an artist friend. She has a nice kitchen on the other side of the space.I would be very upset if I had a cool loft like this and was in danger of being put out, but that’s how New York City works, sometimes.https://www.freundevonfreunden.com/features/475-kent-brooklyn-new-york -- source link
