patrickat:wehaveallgotknives:hamfistedbunvendor:jonpertwee:I feel like this would be a slippery slope towards making it illegal for people to choose to not vote.that’s already how it is in australia#i think its like a $50 fine if you don’t vote #i mean you can leave the ballot blank or draw dicks on it if you want #you just have to show up (via hamfistedbunvendor) and because it’s compulsory, it’s regulated on a national level to be super accessible. the australian electoral commission is the same everywhere. you have heaps of time to vote ahead of election day, by phone, online or at a post office. the polling stations are in schools and community centers - places which have easy lines of transport. you need id - drivers licence or pension card or passport or whatever, but it’s very easy to enrol. australia’s fucked in plenty of ways, but our electoral process is extremely sensible and i love it.Imagine thinking that every eligible citizen voting would be a bad thing. -- source link
