lepromatosis:Pastel portraits done by Henry Tonks, an artist and former surgeon who drew the patients of plastic surgeon Harold Gillies during World War One.Gillies reconstructed the faces of 11,572 soldiers during the war. His and Tonks’s contribution was immense. Yet the public was uneasy with the work done first at Aldershot and later at the Queen’s Hospital in Sidcup, Kent.
