But if you look again, this really brings out two features of Disney character design that you might overlook normally from “this is just how the character is.”1: beauty = goodness. Take a look at the faces. The ones that are originally from the protagonists are far more conventionally attractive than the ones from the antagonists.2: big noses + hooked noses = evil. A large number of the villain faces here (even some of the nonhuman ones!) have large and/or hooked noses, and none of the hero faces do.So, uh… that’s something to think aboutit’s not just Disney, it’s the standard in animation and most folks in that industry are just like “it’s how to make them likable/unlikable!” without questioning it at all. i’ve seen so many animation students be like “wow u can tell whether they’re good or evil just by one look”, and i feel like they’re So Close to realizing the issue, they just need to change their tone of voice when they say it. -- source link
