All right, I aint doin’ trivia challenges anymore. The last time I did one it was so tough no one could answer. So I make one that is easier, and everyone answers it. I almost ran out of Scooby snacks.Anyway, to answer that question. The hole in the stock of a Kar 98 Mauser is for disassembly of the bolt. To do that one first pushes in a lug and screws off the bolt casing. Then one places the bolt in that hole, and pushes against the tension of the spring, removing the spring, firing pin, and other componenets. A secondary use was for transport and storage. A bar would be inserted through the holes and locked up for safe keeping in a barracks or crate. -- source link
