yeoldegunporn:MAS 49/56 The Mas 49/56 was France’s first semi automatic service rifle. There was no magazine loader for the Mas 49/56. The magazines could either be loaded alone “at leisure” by hand with loose cartridges or for fast reload by stripper clips when locked on the rifle. Two methods were used depending on the tactical situation. Stripper clip reload was best option when on the move, changing magazines was more convenient when shooting from a fixed location where dropped empty mags could be recovered easily. Men were issued 4 magazines, and spare ammunition was carried in carton boxes of 3 stripper clips stored in a side pocket of the back pack. The rifles are equipped with a side rail to which the scope can easily be attached. The APX L806 scope support was designed to allow the use of stripper clips, hence the lack of a sun hood. The Mas 49/56 also sports a grenade launcher flip up sight. In line with French doctrine, the Mas 49/56 retains the odd screws of it’s MAS 36 predecessor. -- source link
