naughtylittlebookworm: “Women” by Charles Bukowski“Low-life writer and unrepentant alcoholic Henry Chinaski was born to survive. After decades of slacking off at low-paying dead-end jobs, blowing his cash on booze and women, and scrimping by in flea-bitten apartments, Chinaski sees his poetic star rising at last. Now, at fifty, he is reveling in his sudden rock-star life, running three hundred hangovers a year, and maintaining a sex life that would cripple Casanova.”-GoodreadsI feel like this book choice is a little self explanatory, but I’ll tell why I’m super pumped to read it anyways. I’ve read Bukowski before, and he’s a fucking mastermind, so I’ll continue to read his books until I run out of them. I finished “The Last Night of the Earth” earlier this year, and I loved it. Charles is this filthy minded bad boy who doesn’t follow society’s rules and does and says whatever the fuck he wants; and I feel like I relate to him on far too many levels. I did something a little different with this book: I read a bunch of reviews. I usually avoid learning too much about a book before I read it because I love going into something with an open mind, BUT… I already know that I’m going to enjoy myself so I was looking around to see what people had to say. WHY? I haven’t totally decided yet, haha. But Bukowski gets me feelin’ all kinds of feisty, so I’m sure my review after the fact will be interesting enough. As if my preamble wasn’t long enough… I’m kind of sorry(not sorry) that it’s taking me forever to get these reviews out. I’ve said it before, but I listen to audiobooks literally all day at work, and I have other books that I read depending on my mood (I have a very limited attention span); SO, sometimes it’s hard for me to split my time. Thanks for being so understanding (as if you’re here for anything other than nudes). -- source link
