So a number of years ago, I helped out with a vet exam for an extremely large python. She hasn’t been eating and had been lethargic for some time. Her owner had piled her into the trunk of his car and dragged all 300 lbs of her to the vet to have her looked at.Blood was drawn, and some x-rays were needed.I was asked to keep an eye on her while they were getting the machines ready. Her 23-foot body was huddled in a corner with her head tucked against the wall.I know snakes don’t have facial expressions, and I’m probably just anthropomorphizing her, but I suddenly got a sense that she knew it was over. That she knew she was going to die today…. there was just something in her face, I guess. At that point, we still didn’t know if there was even anything wrong with her.We hooked her up to the machine and sedated her. X-rays showed an anomaly in her liver. When we opened her up for exploratory surgery there was a football-sized tumor embedded in the liver. It was inoperable and threaded between the major vessels. We put her to sleep. She never woke up.I think about this incident sometimes…. these animals are not supposed to be very smart…. Im probably just imagining it.I still can’t help but think that she knew...Other places to see my posts:INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER -- source link
