Leftists and Liberals learned “don’t trust the government”, as if the problem with Nixon wasn’t his personal amorality, bigotry, and paranoia –and how people rewarded him for it all his life– but his office. That gave us three decades(80s-00s) of privatization(i.e. ceding government functions to the wealthy, so they could farm rents from them), legalized banking crimes, and the slow-motion dismantlement of both the US safety net, and post-war initiatives such as Affirmative Action designed to ameliorate structural racial inequality in the US. Republicans “learned” never to let morality get in the way of political expediency, and so now we have a tyrant-minded illiterate criminal in the white house, and a Congress that won’t lift a finger to rein him in. -- source link
