Match Point There was nothing blurred about the lines in Lacoste’s latest offering, with the sporty label paying homage to its roots on the tennis court through a crisp serve of transparency and bold contrasts. Creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista flirted with the paradox of chic yet sporty clothes for spring in his latest collection, using light materials, fresh colors, and trompe-l’oeil to create seductive flesh-revealing juxtapositions. Whilst the medicinal greens featured in the men’s looks could have you wondering whether your man is scrubbing up for his shift at your local hospital, the designer’s clever use of white piping and smart tailoring make the pieces better suited to an afternoon perfecting your backhand volley. The graphic white lines of the tennis court were also featured as the piping on the border of dresses and men’s jackets, whilst barely-there jersey-striped paneling was featured on cropped tops and rugby dresses. White-on-white looks continued the transparency theme, including a sheer jacket paired with a tank mini dress and a tailored blazer teamed with a pair of cropped pencil trousers. Light materials helped make the collection perfect for spring, enhanced by the breezy, earthy color palette, which centered on tennis whites, dusty pinks, faded blues, and deep greens. Sure to turn heads on center court, the use of trompe-l'oeil on a mini dress and blouse created a seductive sheer look, perfected through the clever use of architectural seaming. Whilst the greatest engagement in any athletic activity the crowd at the Lacoste Spring 2014 show had during the week was likely from a box seat at the US Open, the A-line skirts and wrap dresses will have them primed for movement once the warmer months hit. A standout look was a woman’s airy trench coat in a mud-like hue thrown over a simple, light pink shift dress, complete with a bold baseball cap to provide the signature Lacoste sportif twist. Novel fabric applications adorned light, airy trench coats in the men’s offering, which also included suits and blazers constructed from sporty jersey. Volume and smart tailoring were key in this chic, minimalist collection, funked up with an athletic, urban edge. -- source link
