operafantomet:And now for one of the rarest costumes in “Phantom of the Opera”: The Snow Queen. I first heard about this one in Germany, where they call her “Schneekoenigin” - the Snow Queen. And it turns out Germany is one of very few productions having the costume. The other I know of is the original Toronto production (where it since wandered into the Mexican, Brazilian and Argentine productions) and early West End days. It seems to have gone out of use in West End. I haven’t seen it there in ages. But it does appear in backstage photos from the mid 90s, so they definitely had it at one point. Since it haven’t been in use in West End for many years, I assume it was worn out/ruined and not replaced. So the two “Snow Queens” appearing in the Royal Albert Hall concert was most likely of Canadian and German origin. Comparing photos, I am 100% sure Robyn North wore the Canadian one, with the black gloves, only with some added decorations on the silver tabs, BUT the German hat. So my guess is that Katie Hall wore the German one, with silver gloves, though the photos I have of her are too obstructed to tell. Her hat looks more feather-y, maybe made for the occasion, or maybe a Brazilian/Argentine replacement. Neither wore the silver mask for the concert. I don’t know why this costume only appears in some very few productions, or why it seems to have been discontinued in West End. But there ya go. -- source link
