nogginvoice:eltigrechico:armaknee:comedycentral:On last night’s Daily Show, after a spirited discussion about The Civil War, Jon Stewart pitted Judge Andrew Napolitano against Honest Abe Lincoln in a game of The Weakest Lincoln, judged by a panel of three historians.Click here to watch an extended version.Judge Andrew Napolitano’s previous statements criticized on the Daily Show were in fact correct. Isn’t it ironic though Abe Lincoln, a slave owner himself, is being portrayed by a black female..? We’ve also need to realize history is subjective with a multitude of theories explaining the present. So a panel of historians doesn’t grant validity as opinions differ throughout the field.Judge Napolitano made a historical claim here. A claim about events. Such a claim is not an opinion or a theory. It’s either true or false.Guess what? It’s true.As Economist & Historian Thomas DiLorenzo pointed out:The Judge also pointed out that Lincoln sent federal marshals to apprehend runaway slaves and return them to their owners in the South. The panel of liars chanted in unison, “It’s not true.” Well, yes it is true. The latest scholarship on the issue of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which Lincoln very strongly supported in his first inaugural address, is Stanley Campbell, The Slave Catchers(University of North Carolina Press, 2011). Campbell writes that “The Fugitive Slave Law remained in force and was executed by federal marshals” all during the Lincoln regime, just as Judge Napolitano said.Campbell also writes this: “In May, 1862, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia ruled that the Fugitive Slave Law was applicable to the District of Columbia as it was to any of the states. The docket of the court for 1862 listed the claims of twenty-eight different slave owners for 101 runaway slaves. In the two months following the court’s decision, 26 fugitive slaves were returned to their owners from the fugitive slave tribunal in the nation’s capital.”Again, to quote from Campbell:“As late as June 1863, six months after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, fugitive slaves were still being returned to their masters in the loyal states…” and he goes on to give specific examples, contained in the first link provided above. And why was Lincoln, a vicious racist, being portrayed by Jessica Williams? Because she’s the only black correspondent at The Daily Show and Jon was trying to imply that to be critical of Lincoln is racism, as well as to show that he has black friends. (Just a guess on my part)This whole thing was completely disgusting and I really cannot understand anymore the mindset that regular viewers of this show must have.Seriously, why are these dumb asses allowed to be on TV? -- source link
