sar-kalu:the-bi-bilingual:taigas-den:zombikaze:Tasmanian Tiger (extinct)This is footage of an extinct animal. This blows my mind. Wow I Hate ThatHis name was Benjamin. Benjamin was the last surviving member of the Thylacine species and died on 7th of September 1936 in Hobart’s Beumaris Zoo. The hunting of Thylacines wasnt outlawed until 1906, by which point they were already driven to the brink of extinction by Tasmanian farmers, who wanted to protect their sheep. Prior to that, Thylacine hunted wallabies which are fast and agile creatures. Compared to a wallaby, sheep are easy prey. Which of course brought them into direct conflict with various Farmers. Tasmania remains pretty sparsely populated, it would have been difficult to police the farmers vendetta against the Thylacine. Its not the only species in Australia that’s gone extinct like this, but its probably the most famous. No one really cares about the Lord Howe Stick Insect. On a different note: here’s a video link. Its not the whole thing; but its more detailed than a gif. You can find the full recording as well as a database on Australian Thylacine at the Australian Geographic. -- source link
