inqorporeal:geekandmisandry:ruimtetijd:Ok but maybe they want to know YOUR belief you nincompoop. That, and google is full of contradictions. Someone will say there’s XYZ reasons, but then someone ELSE will debunk XYZ reasons, only for someone new to debunk THEM, and then—do you get the picture? Don’t be a dick. Oftentimes people aren’t satisfied with google, or just want to know what YOU think. You should be happy that someone wants to hear your thoughts instead of them jumping to conclusions and assuming your views. None of those questions are about opinions that you need from a specific person, but you tried. It isn’t the duty of the marginalized to educate someone who doesn’t believe marginalization exists (at least, they don’t on paper; but in behavior they prove that they know it’s there). That being said: Google tailors your search results. If someone’s history is full of supremacist, conservative sites and they go looking for information on this marginalization they don’t believe exists, they’re only going to get links to sites that support their beliefs. Google is free, sure, but it may still provide inaccurate or biased information – even Wikipedia isn’t immune. The only way to guarantee they’ll get information that doesn’t come from their usual sources, is for someone to provide them with links.Which leads you to the age-old situation where they attack your sources because they’re not “reliable” enough, they don’t come from a source the person trusts. Which is to say: one of the conservative sources that supports their beliefs. In the end, all it does is wear you out, because you’re trying to help someone who doesn’t respect you and doesn’t want to respect you. And despite what they might claim, they don’t actually want to learn better. It’s an agreement entered into in bad faith: we want to change their minds, they want us to feel like our argument is invalid and worthless. So really? We have every right to refuse to burn ourselves out for the sake of some useless bigot. -- source link
