gunsandposes:FROM BLUESMAN TO SPACEMAN — On August 20, 1975, Voyager 2 began its continuing mission to explore the Solar System and beyond into the spooky void of interstellar space. On board the space probe was the famous Golden Record, with all the sound, images, and data that could be crammed onto a gold-plated copper phonograph record. Among the many audio samplings of life on Earth is the haunting and beautiful song “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground” by Texas gospel blues singer and guitarist Blind Willie Johnson. As of this year, Voyager 2 has left the Solar System, taking Johnson’s song into the unknown. If and when the aliens conquer our planet, I’d like to think they came for the music.Listen for yourself at Youtube. More on the Golden Record at NASA and Wikipedia. -- source link
