At least once per day, you heard that word “Hipster”.Hipsters, much like unicorns, are mythological beasts, they fascinate but don’t exist on the “mainstream” universe.Hipster is the perfect example of how a culture can become mainstream and finally vehicle a message with completely opposite values.Hipsters refers to a postmodern subculture that appears in the 90s but started to be known, and then mainstream in 2010.Hipster avoid consumerism, prefer authenticity and are looking for non mainstream music, clothes and way of thinking, But then, one day, hipster, became mainstream. But how a unconventional culture can still be unconventional becoming mainstream?Hipster is a new trend, and nowadays, when you see somebody with a beard, wearing a checkered shirt on a bike, everybody claiming that’s a “ hipster”.But the whole point of hipster is that they avoid labels and being labeled. However, they all dress the same and act the same and conform in their non-conformity. But Hipsters are supposed to hate anything mainstream or trendy. Finally, hipsters became part of what they first wanted to avoid : became part of consumerism society. Hipster is fashion, and fashion is lucrative. This trend became really profitable for American Apparel, Urban outfitters and other Gap stores even for blogs about music, photos, or cooking.Have hipsters won or merely defeated themselves?Hipsters is not just a look, it’s a culture. You can have the look, that doesn’t meant you got the right values. There are no mainstream hipsters, but there are people wearing Urban Outfitters, still, they’re not hipsters. -- source link
