okayophelia:Archetypes | THE WILD MESSIAHHe is neither gentle nor kind, except in the most terrible of ways. He has the holy fire of the gods within him, that leaves his body gaunt, his blood burning, and his eyes intoxicating. There is some violent grace in him, hollowed out and full of light, that sends the sinful running and the fanatics spinning. He will come in from the wild not with peace but with rage, shaking with the tension of mortal flesh and blood that must hold the divine by sheer force of will. Where he walks power unfolds, untaming beasts, cracking temples and unfettering hearts. When he speaks of what he sees in his waking dreams the masses will listen with a blind passion. He is a theatre; he is a living church; he can never be what he is, which is human. People follow him like sheep, and become as lions. There is love in him enough to sunder nations. In the curve of his smile, in the ripple of the violence he does upon the old world, the universe comes together again.#mildly obsessed with messiahs who are also monsters; messiahs who are inherently monstrous by way of their connection to the divine #the divine is not nice; is not humane; it will eat a mortal from the inside out #and elevate his human striving beyond the capacity of one body to hold #so it spills out into the world; into others; creating disciples and churches and scripture and wars and peace #from this one person who is both flesh and not-flesh; who is light and dark as well as blood and spit all at once #who is half mad and half the sanest person you will ever meet #who can spend days staring at the sun and a moment to slice someone’s throat open #who can look at you with blind eyes and tell you more about yourself than you ever knew because his throat is open to the universe #who with all that need and desire that springs from being the chosen of the gods can never be anything less than awful; than terrible; th… #than cruel; not because he is malicious but simply because no human can hold all that power and exert it upon the world #and not leave a scar as deep as an abyss upon the world #because you need to destroy to create; and the old must be sacrificed for the new #and the messiah is always flesh and divine; old and new; the unnatural meeting of both worlds #and he must always offer his profane flesh up as a sacrifice #lay his body down as the first stone on the path of humanity #he saves by destroying #of course he is wild; of course he is violent; of course the messiah is a monster #he is all the more beautiful for it #because he knows it and that’s the tragedy #that’s why he’s messiah #nothing crueller than loving and being loved by a prophet (via @okayophelia) -- source link
