ancientpeoples:Earrings420-400 BCAthensFound Euboea Pair of gold boat-shaped ear-rings. The boats are decorated, front and back, with tightly packed filigree designs, consisting of two friezes of double spirals separated by three twisted wires flanked by a beaded wire. The top and bottom contours are bordered with beaded and plain wires, while the terminals have a beaded wire and a row of granules surmounted by a rosette. In the hollow of the boat is a siren, constructed from a die-formed front sheet and a flat back sheet. Suspended from the bottom of the boat by means of rings and loop-in-loop chains are four cockle-shells, made in die-formed front and back halves. Above the boat is a large two-tiered rosette, which is attached to the terminals of the boat by means of a forked wire. The large outer petals are convex; the smaller inner ones are concave and filled with enamel, alternately light and dark (presumably green and blue), and there is a central granule. All the petals have beaded wire borders.Source: British Museum -- source link
