gffa:GIFFING DOESN’T EVEN DO THIS JUSTICE.Not only does Cal have to watch his Master die after being so close to surviving with him, not only does Cal feel he should have done more and blames himself for this, not only does Cal have to ride down to Bracca with his Master’s body in the escape pod, while he clutches the lightsaber that’s probably still imprinted with every memory Jaro Tapal ever had while holding it, NO, THAT’S NOT ENOUGH.Tapal dies believing the Jedi are still alive, still out there, that they will help his Padawan, where he cannot.“Wait for the Jedi Council’s signal,” he tells Cal.He thinks they’re still out there, he has no idea that they’re being murdered along with everyone else right now, that Mace Windu is being betrayed by Anakin and then murdered by Palpatine, that Stass Allie is being shot down on Salecami, that Kit Fisto and Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin had just been murdered by Palpatine, that Plo Koon was being shot down on Cato Neimoidia, that Ki-Adi-Mundi was being killed on Mygeeto, that Depa Billaba was being murdered in front of her Padawan on Kaller by the men she’d fought for years with, that only Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda would survive and all they could do was turn off the beacon in the Temple so no more Jedi would be killed by trying to go home.Tapal dies thinking that the Jedi are still going to be able to fight back, going to regroup from this, and that they’ll take care of Cal as soon as they can find him again.We know Cal had fantasies for so long that the Jedi Council would find him again and that they’d go back to Coruscant and take back their home, that eventually he realized they weren’t coming, that no one was left to come for him, they were all dead or out of reach.And it’s killing me that not only does Cal have to live with the trauma of what happened, the trauma of watching his Master die for him, feeling everything in that lightsaber every time he touches it, feeling responsible and like he should have done more, he also has to grapple with the loss of his entire culture and people, he has to deal with Tapal having died thinking that they would be able to take care of Cal, that they would be able to come find their lost child–and they couldn’t. -- source link
