Votive mace of Shu-turul (c. 2168 – 2154 BC).Green marble mace head with his inscription on the flange. Surfacesare carved, perforated and polished. It has bevelled edges and acavity for the haft. Elongated ellipse shape. Dimensions are 10cmlong, 2.2cm thick and 3.8cm wide. The inscription is dedicated tothe god Nergal by a man named Labashum, on behalf of Shu-turul. Inscription language is Old Akkadian.The Akkadians invaded Sumer in 2334 BC, and Sargon of Akkad seizedthe throne. He then went on to found the Akkadian Empire – thefirst multi-national empire in history, possibly based on the modelset by Eannutum. He made Sumer the core of this empire.The Akkadians ruled over much of Mesopotamia (including Sumer) untilc. 2154 BC, when the Gutians invaded from the north. Shu-turul was the last king of the Akkadian Empire. -- source link
