The Port of Bristol Authority official handbook 1938 - cover by mikeyashworth One of a series of annual handbooks that were issued by the Port of Bristol Authority for many years during the Twentieth Century. Bristol City Council had acquired the rights and infrastructure of the city’s long-standing port facilities in 1848 and over the next decades invested heavily in improvements in the ancient city centre docks as well as the two new facilities on the coast at Avonmouth and Portishead.
