bjdconfessions:I’ve never owned a bjd and I’m honestly thinking about buying a recast just to experiment with. I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m terrified of destroying a legit $500+ doll. Is this okay to do so I can have more experience when I do buy a legit?Image by BJDConfessionsIf you purchase a recast for any reason, you are contributing to the theft of dolls from their rightful creators, and could help fund the theft of new, artist dolls without meaning to. I understand what it’s like to be new in the hobby, afraid of ruining an expensive investment. However, there is great support in the community to show you how to play with, or customize, your doll safely. Literally everything has been done and there is a tutorial for everything – just check Den of Angels if you don’t believe me! - and what’s more is that there are relatively inexpensive dolls that you can purchase for well under 300$ that are legitimate, and can work as good starter dolls until you are comfortable purchasing the dolls you’re most interested in. Do some research into the hundreds of doll companies out there, work towards Marketplace access on Den of Angels (where you can find secondhand dolls at good prices!), and purchase legitimate. You are doing yourself and the community a favour, as recasts have become a huge issue in the hobby, and have caused legitimate doll companies (and artists) to go under.
