thesynaxarium: Today we celebrate the Holy Great Martyr Euphemia. Saint Euphemia was captured by pagans when she was in hiding to avoid sacrificing to the idols. She was subject to many cruel tortures which eventually killed her, crowning her with the glory of martyrdom. Countless miracles have been performed by her, most famously in the Fourth Ecumenical Council when the two doctrines of the Orthodox and heterodox were placed in her tomb and opened three days later, only to find the Orthodox scroll in her right hand and the heterodox’s at her feet, thus triumphantly keeping the Orthodox faith pure.
