mxbees:desert-gurl:bubbly-suffer-girl:Transpulse Report , PTHC PresentationIn reference to that FORGE study I wanted to bring this up. Being very generous and assuming that the study is not fake and the numbers are real; One of the biggest problems, at least in my mind, is that we don’t know how trans men classify what is violence compared to trans women. If we look at the study done by Transpulse which by the way actually put up their methodology and released a full report, the differences in depression indicators in my opinion show a pretty dramatic difference. Trans women are less likely to be depressed if employed full time (vs unemployed), educated, and not involved in a community. Whereas trans men were indicated to be less likely of depression if the sex they’re having is good. There’s other differences indicated up there as well but the point is there’s some pretty significant differences. These possible difference in perception are readily apparent when it comes to the PTHC. How many of us have heard that according to trans men there’s too much trans women stuff at PTHC? Well According to the programming data that’s patently untrue and that trans men have been the most represented group since 2008. This phenomena is not unlike how cis men believe cis women to be too talkative. When Dale Spencer taped some audio of men and women talking he found that mean believe the discussion to be equally dominated when women only talk 15% of time.Which given that perception differences exist, and that trans men seem to be exhibiting male patterns of behaviors. Ex. overly concerned about having not just sex but quality sex, and seeing trans women as taking up too much space. I have to wonder if they follow male perceptions of violence as well. Besides that thought though, I just want to drop in some words from another tumblr user:marxism-leninism-maoism:I was reading the National Trans Discrimination Survey and for most of the more subjective questions trans men reported roughly the same shit that trans women did. But when it comes to reporting on the more objective questions, like “have you been imprisoned” or “have you been denied healthcare due to being trans” suddenly trans women report a huge amount of more shit than trans men — mostly around double the rate.Trans men report being harassed, a very broad term with lots of room for interpretation, much more than trans women, but when it comes to sexual or physical assault, much less broad terms with less room for interpretation, trans women report it much more than men. Trans men report being harassed on the job more than trans women, but trans women report actually losing their job because of harassment more than trans men. It’s impossible to reconcile these findings without resorting to the conclusion that trans men are over reporting, and trans women under reporting. There’s no other way that run of the mill harassment would be more for trans men without physical and sexual assault also being more common for trans men; those things exist on a spectrum, or some sort of pyramid or something, however you want to conceptualize it. Acts of higher violence like sexual/physical assault are dependent on, and fueled by, lesser acts of violence like harassment. How are they gonna have more sex-related workshops for cis people than trans women??Reading this shit was bad for my health.re: forge.i think their numbers are… skewed by the fact that the org considers friends and partners of trans ppl to be trans too…. -- source link
