Source: Leiden Museum of Antiquities @thebookewyrme #was it found with associated game pieces?It’s a game known as Mehen, which is in reference to the snake god Mehen (though I’m pretty sure Mehen didn’t have a goose butt) who is the snake you see coiled round Ra when he travels through the Underworld in the Amduat. Think of him like Ouroboros. There are several examples of Mehen boards, and some have been found with an array of pieces, which may or may not have anything to do with the game itself. The pieces range from sets of Lion/Lioness pieces to just simple marble counters. None were found with this particular board, though. So we know it’s a game, not a religious fetish, but still have no idea how it was played. -- source link
