raggedybearcat:It’s not actually accurate to say that vet science ruins everything. A better generalisation would be that vet science shoves me way off into the deep end of overthinking stuff and drawing stupid conclusions about unrelated things (like the time vortex and imaging modalities).Yesterday at work I had a go at modelling out some ideas for my [equal, hi andalites] favourite fictional sentient non-humanoid species with fucking stupid anatomy, because it was so boring that if I had’ve closed my eyes for too long I would’ve ended up in the 70s or something. I honestly believe that a greater understanding of mulefa limb anatomy is the best thing that has come out of studying equine anatomy. SUSPENSORY APPARATUSES AND LOCKING STIFLES FOR EVERYONE :D I’d really like to try to work them out in more detail. I did once before, back in the days of terrible art before I knew much about anatomy (like the fact that the cervical spine is much much much deeper to the dorsal surface than I would’ve thought :D). For a start I disagree with my old opinion that only the rear limb would have a pelvis-y ball and socket joint…I don’t see a reason why the front limb wouldn’t do well like that too. What do people think of an upsidedown reptilian-style ribcage with ribs all the way along (‘spine’ on the ventral aspect, ribs making up the lateral body walls, minimally fused ‘sterna’ above the medial limbs for muscular support and to extend into the neck and tail)? I think it’d retain that diamond shape which makes it seem like there’s no central spine and still have enough flexibility for fast wheeled motion but more stability and structure for musculature, which would be better than the original ‘let’s just have a diamond shaped spine’ that I thought was a good idea years ago. I used to hover around the mulefa gallery on BridgeToTheStars and there was one person who drew them and would insist on a lack of symmetry on the basis that a central spine is essential to symmetry and now I’m angry at myself because why would I not see that it’s not? I mean invertebrates are symmetrical and they lack a spine. It’s not a spine you need, it’s development from that central axis god Zoe why did you try to do this stuff when you knew nothing seriously why.ANDALITE ANATOMYWILL YOU WRITE AN ESSAY PLEASE TELL ME YOU WILLBECAUSE I CAN’T FIGURE OUT THE LUNGS, WHERE ARE THE LUNGS. THE HUMANOID TORSO DOESN’T HAVE THE SPACE AND THEIR OTHER RIBCAGE MEANS A RIDICULOUSLY LONG AIRWAYTHE SPINE HOW DOES IT WORKTHE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM MAKES NO SENSE AT ALLPLEASE FIX THIS WITH YOUR VETERINARY GENIUS(BTW I don’t think they poop, I think they absorb their food as a liquid and probably only have a liquid waste system. BUT HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY GET ENOUGH ENERGY TO DO ANYTHING THAT WAY. GRASS IS THE HARDEST THING TO DIGEST EVER.) -- source link
