daughterofchaos:Detail of a drawing by Jan Toorop titled O Grave, where is thy Victory?, ca. 1892The title is taken from a letter from the Apostle Paul and relates to the victory of Faith over Death. In the drawing Death comes as redemption from earthly suffering. At an open grave lies a man’s body entwined by thorny branches, the symbol of wretched earthly existence. Two seraphim (angels) hover over the grave and free the dead from those branches.via Rijks Museum -- source link
