You know how vampires are immortal in movies? They live through generations of people, and see the patterns of governments and human behavior repeated over and over? It must give them such a calm perspective. We humans think everything is shocking and new. They’re like ‘hey, this has happened a thousand times before. It’ll all work out.’ . In a weird way, I felt like that last night. Minus the blood sucking devil tendencies. I stayed up from sunrise to sunrise exploring Chicago with @hyattcentric and @passionpassport. We went to twenty places, from museums to coffee shops to roof decks to burger joints to bars and karaoke dreams. As the night became the morning, I started seeing joggers at 4:30am. I started seeing old guys at the diner reading the newspaper. They weren’t up late. They were up for the day. I saw people headed to work in the wet rainy streets before dawn. I had been awake for 24 hours, and seen the entire cycle of their day. . We divide our days by periods of unconscious recharging. But if you skip that, even just once, you see how the world never really sleeps. It just spins. And it all fits together. All the jobs and dreams and lives of everyone, all woven together in an unbroken chain. . I felt immortal for a day. I’m exhausted. And full of love for this city. And she gave me one hell of a sunrise to send me off to sleep. . : @kylepters (at Chicago Downtown) -- source link
