GALTx eNews: Hounds Take Flight! “It takes a village” may sound overused, but at GALT, those are the lyrics to our anthem! It’s been abundantly apparent with an exciting week for four of GALT’s greyhounds on their way to the Land of Enchantment to GALT New Mexico. Typically, Dallas volunteers drive hounds to Amarillo to meet our New Mexico transport team who take them on the final leg to their foster homes. It is a grueling trip for hounds and humans alike. This week it was very different – the hounds took flight! The village’s work begins at Houn House where volunteers sew coats to keep the hounds warm in winter, and TLC volunteers, lead by Debi Joynt, ensure the hounds receive enrichment and engagement with love and walkies while hounds wait to embark on their trip. Foster Coordinator, Julie Waller, and Board Member, Rick Waller, made sure that the hounds caught their flights from Dallas to Amarillo where long time GALT volunteers and adopters Janet and Dr. Wick Culp facilitated the hounds medical vetting and saw our special cargo off on their next leg of their adventure. Against the backdrop of the clear blue skies, our volunteers, like Donna Howland, happily welcomed the first two hounds, lovingly ferried by Pilots N Paws, organized by the most special kind of Travel Agent from Friends of Texas Panhandle Shelter Pets. Brenda Walsh, houndie Travel Agent, coordinates animal needs with benevolent pilots who lend their time and aircrafts so that these precious souls get from one part of the country to another. Because of them, Disco and Irish are safely tucked into their New Mexico foster homes – and we will welcome Cactus and Amanda this weekend, also with transport via Pilots N Paws. Greyt things happen throughout the dog loving community - like GALTx volunteers Ashley Roberts and Shannon Forrest who were already working to pay these kindnesses forward by helping an honorary hound get home, read the touching story here. We are so thankful for all who pulled together as a village to bring us another happy GALT ending. Click here to see more photos from the transport.12/11/20 -- source link
