No Humps Not Llamas DSC_9208 by BlueberryAsh I’m not sure if we have Llamas in Australia but we certainly have a thriving Alpaca Industry. For some reason, I know this, yet every time I see an Alpaca, I refer to it as a Llama. It’s like when you call someone by the wrong name and then once you have done it, it is hard to shake using that name again. Not only do I embarrass myself by referring to them incorrectly, at a recent gathering I confidently said that the difference between Llamas and Alpacas was the number of humps. I thought I got this from one of my all time favourite Children’s Books by Dr. Seuss- Come Over to My House (come over to play). This book sparked my imagination about travel and the way different people have completely different ways of life and different homes in other parts of the world. The page for South America has a young boy on a Llama playing a pan flute. “Over at my house You’ll eat funny fruit Ride on my Llama And toot on my toot” I checked. This Llama from the book does not have any humps! I have no idea where this came from but in my minds frail memory it did. These were the Alpacas at Marnong Estate at Mickleham. It was raining on and off but stopped enough for me to take a few images of these wonderful sun-rays breaking through the clouds and the Alpacas (no humps) in the foreground. https://flic.kr/p/2gXkJ5b -- source link
