This has been a thing in my shitty white South Carolina pseudo-city for decades. Black families with properties they’ve been passing down since slavery “ended” (I know I know) are relentlessly pressured by the expanding town to give up their property and fuck off. A handful either refuse on principal or can’t because ownership is divided and scattered to such an extent that it’s just not gonna happen, sending white folks into hysterics over what they frame as a deliberate attempt to sabotage their innocent desire to, I don’t know, build civilization or some shit. No aid is provided, mind you, and the pressure is relentless, so you end up with what were quite literally slave shacks crammed between boutiques. Great critique of the US, awful position for the families. So, yeah, it’s just great to see that the rest of the country is fully caught up with fucking South Carolina in terms of shameless predation. Baltimore is getting attached. Sheila sold most of hood way back before the gift card scandal. There has been nothing done to address the blight.
