odd-vox: yimra:glass2hold: Bruh why they green screen a bar ??? They can afford a set hello? This isnt even the most egregious example, they cgi’d a tranquilizer gun in one of the spider-man movies OK I agree to a certain extent but, guys, what happened on the Rust set is exactly the reason why, if you can fucking afford it, you don’t have to actually handle weapons that may or may not go off and kill innocent people. Might be hokey I guess but I respect them for it. At this point, we have the tech to do it and if the production needs to cut costs to the point where they need to use any sort of gun that has the ability to fire- anything at all, even with blanks- they need to adjust their budget accordingly and use the fucking cgi. At this point, it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people just didn’t do their jobs on Rust and a woman lost her life because of it. Brandon and Bruce Lee died a long fucking time ago- if Bruce’s death did nothing to change the industry, his son’s should have. The amount of pain their family must still be in in the face of a perfectly avoidable tragedy, I can’t imagine. But their deaths did nothing to really change the industry- people mourned, regulations changed- but obviously the issue still remains.I say this as an indie filmmaker- if you need to fire a weapon, like absolutely , okay stupid but I guess if you’re meticulous and put up checks and balances, cool- but, at the end of the day, if you’re kicking members of IATSE off your set and replacing them with non union hacks? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on bc you’re endangering the lives of everyone involved and it’s for money and that makes you a bad technician, a bad boss and a bad person. People fucking die or get horribly injured when you cut corners and put incompetent people in charge. Hell, accidents happen with stunts all the time and it can destroy careers and leave people with permanent injuries. Brendan Frasier on the Mummy movies, and, God- remember when Dylan O'Brein was injured so horribly after being dragged behind a rig he couldn’t work for almost 2 years? I’m talking the producers and everyone on down the list. The more I read about it, the more incensed I get because if this show had used stupid cgi guns, they may have gotten a small blurb in the HR but this little boy would still have a mom.Marvel is a huge multi billion dollar monster of a franchise funded by another evil conglomerate and they probably do it for insurance purposes and to sort of respect California gun laws, like, believe me I know comparing indies with movies that post a billion plus a weekend is comparing mountains to mole hills but they are doing the right thing here. Blanks are deadly if you’re 6 feet away or less- so, real working guns have no place on sets and I hope to God someone pays for what imo, is reckless endangerment, gross negligence, possibly involuntary manslaughter along with some civil charges. I know they’re getting sued right now, rightfully, but I do think an example needs to be made. Blackball the amorer, fine the shit out of the production and everyone involved, AB included, and pass legislation, or, at the bare minimum, make it illegal for anyone who isn’t union to handle weapons and make those people reapply every year and make a mandatory seminar/ refresher and make it a bit of a chore to keep it to weed out the assholes. Like, guys, I was in one of the worst natural disasters in recent history. I was driving home the day after I graduated college. It was a 6 hour drive from my school to my hometown and I stopped in to see my best friend from hs as she finished a shift at a store in the main path of a tornado that killed a lot of lot people I knew. Nearly 2 years later, we had mostly rebuilt. I was omw to grad school when my mom called me hysterical bc she had to go pick up the kids from their elementary school bc something terrible had happened and, long story short, a bunch of predatory contractors had come in, taken insurance money, and done shotty jobs and/ or just not finished them, period. One morning, a 16yo son of a teacher was helping her in her morning meeting like he always did. 800 children in a gymnasium watched as a child was crushed and killed instantly after the improperly installed basketball equipment dislodged from the ceiling and fell on him and killed him, instantly. And now that contractor- who has 100% admitted to being an asshole conman who took the money and ran- and his crew are never getting out of prison. Make it happen, New Mexico. -- source link
