beggars-opera:Harris’s List of Covent-Garden Ladies, a yearly directory of London prostitutes, was one of the most popular book series in 18th century England. Each year from 1757-1795 for 2s. 6d., you could get a new list of women ready to serve your every need. Each entry comes with a discreetly disguised name (”Miss W–ll–ms”), a bit of poetry, and a description that could include everything from age and physical appearance (”teeth tolerably good”), to price, to kinky specialties. Each edition sold about 8,000 copies. -- source link
