arseniccupcakes:fyeahrasputina:thelifeguardlibrarian:thepenguinpress:This man found a signed copy of Frankenstein in his grandfather’s old library. (He received at least $500,000 at auction for it.)Holy smokes. If you read the article, the inscription is “To Lord Byron from the Author.” That means this was the copy given from Mary Shelley to her friend, the poet Lord Byron. In June 1816, a group of young friends—including Mary Shelley, poet Percy Shelley, poet Lord Byron, and author John Polidori—was in Geneva, Switzerland. They were all snowed in, and conducted a ghost story writing contest to pass the time. Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. She was only 19 years old. While the book was written in 1816, it wasn’t published until 1818. Hence the Rasputina lyrics:“In the spring of 1315there began an era of unpredictable weather. It did not lift until 1851.You remember 1816 as the year without a summer.June 1816,a sudden snowstorm blankets all the country side. So, Mary Shelley had to stay inside, and she wrote Frankenstein.Oh, 1816 was the year without a summer.”Rasputina - 1816 Was the Year Without a SummerSide note: I’m not sure which I want more, the book or the guy who found it.there are literally no limits to what I would do just to see this book in person, to touch it for just a second -- source link
