Rare Sharps Nips Model 1849 Breechloading Rifle,A rare Sharps variant made by Albert S. Nippes of Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, this rifle uses the standard Sharps Breechloading design. However, the Sharps Nips was an improvement of the Sharps design, especially with the addition of a circular self capping mechanism. To fire a user inserted a paper cartridge. On a regular Sharps the user would have to cock the hammer and place a percussion cap on the nipple in order to discharge the round. On the Sharps Nips the self capping device would automatically place a percussion cap on the nipple when the hammer was cocked, saving the user one step in loading and firing.Only 50-150 Sharps Nips were produced. Estimated Value: $9,500-$16,000 -- source link
