qsy-complains-a-lot:Starr M1858 Army double action revolverManufactured by Ebanezer Townsend Starr out of Binghamton and Yonker, New York c.1862-63 for both an army contract and the civilian market - serial number 5239..44 caliber cap and ball, double action, creeping loading lever.Making up more than a tenth of all revolvers used by the Union during the American Civil War, the Starr differed from the rank-and-file Colts and Remingtons in a couple of ways. The first was that it was double action, with a large trigger-like cocking lever in front of a smaller single-action trigger, which could be pressed independently by pulling on the cocking lever all the way to the back of the trigger guard. The second was a frame that could open up like a top break action revolver to remove the cylinder, which did not rest on a separate cylinder axis but instead had protruding pins holding it in recesses in the frame. This construction made the gun fairly easy to disassemble, but also prevented spent caps to fall in the cylinder gaps and jam it up. -- source link
