insertdiversion:I C A R U SMythology Meme » Myths Icarus was the son of the inventor Daedalus and the slave, Naucrate. As punishment for helping Theseus kill the Minotaur and escape with his daughter, King Minos had Daedalus and his son imprisoned on the island of Crete in his own invention, the Labyrinth. Daedalus would not stand for it, and the only way to escape the island safely was by flight. Crafting two pairs of wings of feathers and wax, he fit one pair for himself, and the other for his son, Icarus. His son became overly ecstatic by the thrills of flight however, and Icarus flew higher and higher, ignoring his father’s please to fly back down closer to the earth. The boy flew too close to the sun causing the wax wings to melt and him to fall into the sea and drown to death. Daedalus found his corpse, and buried him on the land which would be called Icaria, and the sun his son drowned in the Icarian Sea. -- source link
