iratusmagus:comradeprozac:Look at this guy who has never ever played a video game ever in their whole damned life and the only knowledge they have about them is from people who don’t like video gamesBruh, I hate to tell ya, it ain’t class choice that are the problem with female fantasy characters. Maybe, I dunno, actually play some videogames?Have YOU played any games? Ever? Girls are constantly being relegated to the role of healer, mage, archer, dancer, or other “squishy” classes. There certainly ARE exceptions, even within series that are notorious for it, but girls being left as “support” classes are far more common than not. Conversely the “tankier” roles are very often held by men. Berserkers, fighters, brawlers, paladins, knights, and other “strong” combat classes are usually considered male classes. Common examples of this would be Final Fantasy (almost all of them), Fire Emblem, Borderlands (though this has been improved in BL3), PLENTY of MMO’s, Golden Sun (my favorite game series of all time), and many many other RPGs as well as other genres. Also very commonly when someone of an opposite gender IS able to be the other gender’s associated class they are still conforming to that gender. How many male mages or healers are effeminate as opposed to manly? How many female knights or tanks are overtly butch? (Fire Emblem is a particularly good example of this, particularly on the male side.)And as to the last statement yes, this is by far not the only issue with girls in videogames, however a post does not have to mention every single one of these issues to be valid. Sometimes people can say “I feel like talking about one particular facet of this issue today” without writing a full-length essay on the entire discourse. Try playing an actual game before you accuse other people of being ignorant. -- source link
