cottoneyedjoeoffury: kyle-thegeek: dailyarianagifs: We deserve to be equal, everyone deserves to be equal. It’s just a never ending fight. Unfortunately it’s going on for so long and we’ve made less progress there than we have in other communities. Like, with gay rights and everything, we’ve made more progress there. And that’s amazing and wonderful! But there’s so much work to do for women still. Like what. What can you not do that a man can’t ? What rights do they have that women don’t ? I asked 15 of my guy friends and 15 of my girl friends, all from the same area, if they were ever scared to walk home at night for any reason, or be alone on public transportation, be in an isolated area, etc., and every single girl said they were often scared to be alone in pubic areas at night, such as sidewalks alone, because of the chance they would be harmed. Not one of the boys said anything like that. I don’t know, i was just curious, and maybe that means nothing, but interpret it how you would like. too bad theres absolutely no reason for the girls to be more scared. Statistically, men get assaulted more often than women. And obviously why would your guy friends openly admit they were afraid to walk home. most men don’t like to talk about what they fear, especially teenage boys, who are prone to acting “macho” in attempts to impress girls. so why would they admit to being afraid to walk home? and you should be afraid to walk home at night. Where do you think you live? fucking rainbow land?? thats some serious first world privilege that you think you shouldn’t be mindful or aware of bad things that could happen. They happen to anyone. They happen to everyone. Men are much more likely to be murdered walking home at night, while women are more likley to be raped. Ill let you decide where the inequalities are in that one. The point is, the world is cold and bitter. There are a lot of fucked up people out there who like to prey on weak people. But don’t think just because youre a woman, that means you are automatically gonna get raped if you walk home at night. ITs a possibility. Not very high. But there is the same probability that I, (A 120 lb, 5 foot 5 17 yr old male) will be assaulted as well. The world is dangerous and it will not stop being dangerous as long as the human brain develops disease and disorders. You should never think that its a good idea to walk home alone in the dark, and if you have to, you better be on your guard, just in case anything happens. They make defense weapons for situations just like this, to prevent you from becoming a statistic. But i’d say women would be scared more just because they cant fight back as easily as the average male could. How many of your male friends are well built or slightly muscular or tall even? Versus how man female friends you have that are under 200 lb? People do bad shit and its not a bad thing to be able to defend yourself. You can’t whine and say you shouldn’t have to, when its not something you can control. And pls don’t say something like “lets just teach men not to rape”. .-. men already know not to rape. No rapists thinks rape is ok. They know its wrong. They just don’t care, thats why they do it. Its like saying we should teach thieves not to steal. Why don’t people just lock their doors and actually try to prevent those statistics. -- source link
