cma-islamic-art: Gilded Dish with Flowers and Leaves, c. 1590, Cleveland Museum of Art: Islamic ArtThis popular floral design with a central swaying saz leaf, red roses, and blue hyacinths was further enhanced with glittering gold, a feature that rarely survives. Turkish potters developed the red-the most difficult color to achieve in ceramics-with a clay slip rich in iron. The rim displays a simplified “rock and wave” design adopted from Chinese ceramics which were abundant in the imperial Topkapi Palace.Size: Diameter: 29.8 cm (11 ¾ in.); Overall: 6.6 cm (2 5/8 in.)Medium: Fritware with red slip, underglaze-painted design, and overglaze gildinghttps://clevelandart.org/art/1915.663 -- source link
