Edited by the Japanese graphic designerHamada Masuji (1892-1938), it is one of the foundational publications of modern graphic design in Japan, combining theory and history with thousands of examples of completed designs and design proposals arranged by topic. Among the hallmarks of the journal, as shown here from volume 15, was its demonstration of the changes taking place in traditional Japanese lettering styles as they were being influenced by Art Nouveau and contemporary European type design.
