ltwilliammowett:Christian IV at flagship “Trefoldigheden” (The Trinity) at the battle of Colberger Heide by Danish painter Vilhelm Nikolai Marstrand 1865/66.The naval battle on the Kolberg Heath took place on 1 July 1644. In the course of the Torstensson War (a partial war of the Thirty Years War) a Swedish fleet fought on the Kolberger Heide against a Danish fleet for supremacy in the Baltic Sea area. (The sand of the Kolberger Heide, formerly situated at the Schönberger Probsteiküste, had washed away since the storm tide on 10 February 1625 and had deposited itself before Laboe; the name remained for a coastal sea area.). The two fleets, with 40 and 34 ships, met north of Fehmarn and then moved to the Kiel Fjord, where the naval battle took place. The Danish Imperial Admiral Jørgen Vind and King Christian IV were severely wounded in battle (Christian IV lost an eye but continued to fight and Vind succumbed to his injuries in Copenhagen on 17 July), but the Danes were able to hold their ground and prevent a Swedish landing. TheTrefoldigheden built at Neustadt, and launched 1639.She was rebuilt 1657, and last commisioned at 1666. -- source link
