mauritshuis-museum: Portrait of Stadholder-King William III (1650-1702) surrounded by a Garland of Flowers, Daniel Seghers, 1660, Mauritshuis MuseumSeghers, a Flemish artist who specialised in painting flowers, often combined his flowers with a stone statue. This bust is of King-stadholder Willem III, the stadholder of Holland who was also the king of England. The branches of orange blossom and the orange lilies refer to his family name: of Orange. The painting was probably a gift from Seghers to Constantijn Huygens, the secretary of the stadholder. Until the mid-nineteenth century, it hung in his home, close to the Mauritshuis.https://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2021672/resource_document_mauritshuis_257.html?utm_source=api&utm_medium=api&utm_campaign=j4AoMQNzp -- source link
