floatingbook:natural–blues: I took some screenshots of this video, about “leftover women” in China, women who are unmarried and over the age of 25. I took screenshots every time someone said something that created a picture with the subtitles that just…. resonated with me. Something women can truly understand. These women deserve to be heard. This video is extremely emotional and highlights very well the pressure put on Chinese women by their parents to marry as soon as possible, in order to be ‘respectable’ women and show respect to their parents. But they are not hopeless. They are working to make themselves heard and to change mentalities around unmarried women in China. The last part of the video shows the result on the parents of the action they took. “A marriage market in Shanghai’s People’s park was taken over by personal messages from hundreds of independent women, stating that they want to control their own destiny.” Mostly, their parents react with understanding and acknowledge that their daughters are fine as they are. These women are not “leftover women”, they are “power women”. -- source link
