thegirlwholied:Philippe! 1/? Philippe Candeloro is my favorite D'Artagnan. (No, really, if you don’t remember his long program from the 1998 Olympics, you should go watch it right now, and then maybe his gala performance, and the encore for the gala performance because the crowd loved him so, so much, and so did my whole family watching at home. The man could put on a show). I’m one of those people who doesn’t follow figure skating at all until the Winter Games roll around, and with Sochi coming up, I was thinking back. My brother & sister & I were little kids at the time, and we still talk about Philippe as D'Artagnan. Partly because he was awesome, partly because we loved the 1993 Three Musketeers movie, partly because Philippe’s focus was on entertaining the crowd more than the judges and he held our attention, but really he was just memorable. He took you through a whole story, on skates, in a way that, for me, nobody has matched since. And that no actor playing D'Artagnan on screen has ever quite matched, either. How come it’s 2021 already and I only just discovered this guy? A fellow Musketeers fan sent me the link to this vid the other day, I wasn’t very interested (never into figure skating) but clicked on it anyway because I had nothing better to do, and then - wow. What a performance - the flair, the charisma, the ability to turned himself into the character he interpreted, the effort in engaging the audience, accompanied by great music and amazing choreography, made it such a joy to watch. I never knew figure skating could look like that. -- source link
