endangered-justice-seeker:Some pundits dislike it when people of color pronounce their own names correctlyThis reminds me of a bit in Woman On the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy (1976) in which the protagonist Consuelo (Connie) remembers a white US schoolteacher shaming her in front of the class for not speaking with a white US accent, whilst casually calling her “Consoola”.
